Presently training with his coach and his other coach, the tennis star has steadily progressed in the last few weeks - peaking in a closely contested 7-5 4-6 6-3 win over challenger Moutet.

His retrieving strategy and regular emotional displays on the playing surface had caused commentators to question if his skill to play at the top level was concluded.

But the player has implemented adjustments in recent weeks, making an effort to come to the net and perform aggressively, reinforced by an better service.

He recovered from a deficit in the opening set against the challenging Moutet, taking four of the concluding five games to go ahead.

The competitors exchanged service breaks in the following set before the challenger, bidding for his maiden professional victory, seized the initiative to push for a decider.

Moutet defended four early chances in a competitive final set before the Russian broke to 15 to secure the win.

Appropriately, the winner secured the win with a shot at the net area, with Moutet failing to manage a return after over two and a half hours.
